Graffoe Limousin Stud in South Australia's Upper South East and the Adelaide Hills has 20 years experience running stud and commercial purebred and pure French Limousin herds, and using Limousin bulls as terminal sires over British-breed cows to see how they perform.

Stud Limousin bulls, cows and heifers, as well as Limousin/Angus females are usually for sale throughout the year.

Our stud and crossbred Limousin females are most impressive, producing heavy MSA grading vealers and yearlings for sale to local butchers and Limousin-loving Hardwicks for their top Melbourne and Sydney restaurant trade.

Because of our experience we can highly recommend using Limousin bulls as terminal sires and Limousin females as commercial breeders with complete confidence. Also, our Limousin/Angus and Angus/Limousin crossbred females are particularly sought after as breeders.

Graffoe Limousins' recent highlights include reserve champion carcase, and a 1st and 2nd prize in two of the four classes in the 2009 Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic. This follows a 1st (the prestigious pen of 3 class) and two 3rd prizes in last year's Classic. Graffoe Limousin-sired animals have been the most successful of all straight- and crossbred entries over the two Classics. ... more

Foundation Limousin females with top performance genetics were obtained from some of the best stud Limousin herds in Australia. Daughters of such great cows as White Lakes Exotic, White Lakes Goldie and Premier Cauliflower were acquired.

Crossbreeding with Limousins has the advantage of increasing muscle and vealer weight through hybrid vigour, which also improves feed conversion efficiency, dressing percentage (typically 58-63%), retail yield (up to 75%), and eating quality by improving texture and tenderness.

Limousins originate from France where the breed is called Limousine, or the plural form Limousines. They were bred originally as draft animals, but their main purpose now is the production of high quality meat.

French Limousin breeders have a strict breed standard which is maintained by recording only qualified animals in the French Herd Book. These recorded animals provide the standard against which stud Limousin breeders throughout the world benchmark their cattle.
