Foundation Limousin females with top performance genetics were obtained from some of the best stud Limousin herds in Australia. Daughters of such great cows as White Lakes Exotic, White Lakes Goldie and Premier Cauliflower were acquired.
Crossbreeding with Limousins has the advantage of increasing muscle and vealer weight through hybrid vigour, which also improves feed conversion efficiency, dressing percentage (typically 58-63%), retail yield (up to 75%), and eating quality by improving texture and tenderness.
Limousins originate from France where the breed is called Limousine, or the plural form Limousines. They were bred originally as draft animals, but their main purpose now is the production of high quality meat.
French Limousin breeders have a strict breed standard which is maintained by recording only qualified animals in the French Herd Book. These recorded animals provide the standard against which stud Limousin breeders throughout the world benchmark their cattle.
